Cherry's Art and Books

5 comments:

  1. Hi from Cherry Alice Collins.

I am starting a new blog. This is because I have not visited my blog for over a year. Since then I have done so much that it will take ages to tell you all about it. The main thing I am doing now is waiting for my first children's book to be printed and delivered from China...so this is very very exciting!
It is called Oscar's Close Call and is about a fat cat who gets stuck in a drain and then gets rescued by his owner. It is suitable for ages approx. 3 - 9.

This book is illustrated and written by me. It took about one year to illustrate. I will tell you more about the book soon and add on some pics for you.

Also we have been overseas and had a great time in Italy and France and fitted in a little bit of spain as well.

  2. By now, I have learnt a few things about self publishing, but there does seem to be a lot more still to learn. It is quite a bit of mucking around for anyone to do who wants to self publish but in the end, in many ways it is nice to have total control over your book and how it turns out.

Printing overseas seems to be the only option for Australian writers wanting to self pub. Here I was quoted from $20 au to $40 au for one copy by printers to print my 32 page colour A4 size book. Now my husband is a teacher/librarian and tells me that picture books retail from 24.99 to 29.99 so it isn't hard to do the mathes and realize that printing my hardback in australia is not going to work out ok. Anyway I am now getting the printing done in China and think that will be ok. It is
risky though with the company I am using as they have not been able to agree to a really safe way of me paying them so I have to "trust the Universe" that the books will arrive on my door step safe and sound!

I am looking at more than one book launch and I think that is a good idea for publicity but also
for practical reasons. Also it makes it really relaxed to organise as I feel if one doesnt work out too well there will be another chance.
